Hi all! I’m Julie from Swatch and Review! When “Blue and Silver” won for the Canadian Beauty Bloggers‘ theme of the month, my first thought was to do a quick and easy manicure and be done with it. But… I was up to the challenge of incorporating both blue and silver into my makeup. And since I am working on this post during my time in Australia at PAX (a video game/comic book/nerd conference), I figured this was the perfect time and place for a crazy cool makeup look.
The look all started with Wet n Wild’s limited edition eyeshadow palette, High Wasted Jeans. (no that’s not a typo). It had a nice mix of blue and silver shimmers that would be perfect for an icy eye look.
I used pretty much all the shadows in the palette, starting with the darkest on the lid and blending my way out with lighter colours.
I used the silver shade in the inner corner and a bit on the centre of the lid just for some dimension.
I also added the Wet n Wild Idol Eyes Creme Shadow Pencil in Techno on the lower lashline just for fun. I did try this as a shadow base at first but it was a bit too greasy to stay put.
Next up, blue lips. I started with a light base just around the outer lipline with Kat Von D’s Poe (not shown here, it’s a dark navy blue with glitter) and then filled in with NYX Macaron Blue Velvet (above).
And here’s the final look! Not something I’d wear everyday, but still pretty wearable. I didn’t get too many odd looks at the PAX convention either.
I think that, minus the blue lips, the eyeshadow look is way more smoky and less “80s blue”. For a palette I didn’t think I would use much, I am reach for High Wasted Jeans a lot more now after creating this look!
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF BLUE LIPSTICKS? Would you dare?

]]>Dior New Red is a vibrant reddish pink. It has buildable coverage so you can wear it sheered out or layer it for more intensity. As with all DiorBlush, it comes in sleek navy packaging with an angled brush included in the compact. I’m not sure that I’ll get too much use out of the brush it comes with because I do already have a few favourite brushes I use to apply blush, but it would definitely come in handy for on the go touchups.
I’ve been on a bit of a Dior kick lately. I have only tried the brand recently, but I’m already hooked and wondering why it took me so long! In the short span of a couple of weeks, I picked up this blush, a Fusion Mono eyeshadow and 3 of the 5 Couleur eyeshadow palettes. It definitely helps that I got most of that as an Optimum Point redemption, but I am already drooling over the new eyeshadow palettes for the holidays as well as some other Fusion Mono shadows. I originally was really intrigued by the Diorific Golden Shock highlighter, but I have been reading a lot of reviews of it lately, and it turns out that the beautiful gold is just over spray and from the swatches I’ve seen, it’s pulling very yellow on people, so I’ll probably pass on that. It’s a shame because it’s so pretty, but there are always a lot of gorgeous highlighters that come out for the holidays. I’m looking at you Chanel Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder. Anyway, I’ll be reviewing the rest of my Dior goodies soon.
Have you tried Dior DiorBlush 889 New Red? What are your Dior must haves?

]]>The post Inglot Eyeshadow Swatches & Review appeared first on Scarlet Beauty.
]]>Last month, I wrote about the Inglot store that just opened in Toronto. I picked out 10 eyeshadows to fill one of their Freedom System Palettes. Are you ready for some Inglot eyeshadow swatches? They are incredibly drool worthy.
It was really hard to narrow my choices down to the 10, but I was able to create a palette of eyeshadows that I think will work well for fall. I ended up choosing 421, 409, 423, 452, 450, 404, 433, 444, 434, and 446.
I’ve had a while to play with and test all of the shadows in this palette, and I must say I really love them all! I’ve used each of them at least once since purchasing them and there isn’t a single shadow in the bunch that has been hard to blend, and they are all insanely pigmented. I’m especially hooked on 423 lately, it has been my go to shadow for an effortless purple smokey eye suitable for daytime wear.
This Inglot haul definitely has me hooked on the brand and I’ll be back to the store soon to pick out another palette. I’d love to add some mattes into the mix, there were some I had my eye on when I was in the store last month. Between wanting to put together another palette and all the things on currently on my wish list, it’ll be a dangerous couple of months! Good thing all those Inglot shadows are permanent!
Have you tried Inglot shadows? Anything else from Inglot you recommend I take a look at?

]]>The post OPI Black Tie Optional Swatch appeared first on Scarlet Beauty.
]]>OPI Black Tie Optional is an older polish that I got early on into my OPI obsession. It’s a gorgeous blackened purple with slight pinkish purple mircroshimmer. Since it’s quite an older polish it comes with the thinner brush that OPI used to make, but it still went on easily and was opaque in two coats.
I love dark, vampy polishes like this and am happy to have it in my collection. You can never have too many purple polishes I say. It’s funny to think that when I purchased OPI Black Tie Optional about 6 years ago, I only had a handful of OPI nail polishes in my collection. I’ve certainly acquired many polishes since then and my collection continues to grow. The drawers I keep my polishes in don’t really have much room left! Maybe that just means I need to find a better storage solution.
What’s on your nails today?
OPI is a staple brand in many salons and spas, and can be found in many home collections as well. This October is all about sharing your OPI stash. Be sure to head over to Chantal’s Corner, KalynLord.com, and Scarlet Beauty for all their swatches! Don’t forget to play along by tagging your own manicures with the #OPIOctober tag!

]]>1. Marc Jacobs Beauty – The Sky-Liner Seven Piece Petite Highliner Collection – I’ve been hearing amazing things about Marc Jacobs liners, and what better way to try them than to get a set like this. It comes with 7 x 0.01 oz Highliner gel crayons in O(vert) (forest green), Brown(out) (bronze with shimmer), Th(ink) (deep navy), (Plum)age (vivid purple), Blacquer (black), Sunset (golden bronze shimmer), Midnight in Paris (inky indigo blue). I’m always on the hunt for that perfect black liner, and I definitely enjoy some colour once in a while too.
2. NARS Virtual Domination Palette – I’ve actually never sprung for any of the holiday NARS blush palettes, and have regretting it. Not this year! I’m anxiously awaiting the release date in Sephora next month. This gorgeous palette contains 4 blushes and a bronzer in:
3. Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette – I can’t believe that I went years without being interested in eyeshadow palettes. I seem to have made up for that this year by acquiring way too many neutral palettes. No, I take that back. There isn’t such a thing as too many neutral palettes. Anyway, I’ve got my sights on Vice 3. I’ve been nothing but impressed by the formula of Urban Decay’s shadows and this would be a good addition to my collection.
4. Laura Mercier Mini Caviar Stick Eye Colour Quartet – I’ve had Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks on my wish list forever and was so excited when I saw this set of 4 minis. It’s a great way to try more than one colour because let’s be honest, it would probably take a really long time to finish up a full sized Caviar Stick. At least it would for me, I’m constantly rotating through products in my collection. Rosegold, Moonlight, Amethyst, and Cocoa are included in this set.
5. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette – Who hasn’t heard about this palette yet? When I saw the announcement that Hourglass was coming up with an Ambient Lighting Blush Palette, I knew I had to have it. The full size blushes are a bit pricy, and I have never used up a blush in my life, so this is the perfect solution. 3 blushes in one amazing palette. Included in this are Luminous Flush (champagne rose), Incandescent Electra (cool peach), Mood Exposure (soft plum). Spoiler alert, I bought this the minute it was available for Sephora VIB Rouge members and will be reviewing it soon.
6. Anastasia Tammana Palette – This is a fall and holiday palette designed in collaboration with world famous makeup artist Tamanna Roashan. We all know that Anastasia has brow products that are out of this world, so it’s great to see that she’s coming out with eyeshadow palettes now as well. This palette comes with 10 shadows – Sangria, Venezia, Custom, China Rose, Fresh, Chocolate, Bengal, Noir, Gilded, and Blush. I’m hoping I can get my hands on this before it sells out.
7. Glamglow Gift Sexy – I’m lusting after this trio of Glamglow’s skincare treatment masks. These are quite pricy on their own, but a much better value in this set. I’ve been really trying to invest in better skincare this year and it makes so much of a difference in how my skin looks. These masks would make a great addition to my routine. It comes with:
-1.7 oz THIRSTYMUD™ Hydrating Treatment
– 0.5 oz SUPERMUD™ Clearing Treatment
– 0.5 oz YOUTHMUD™ Tinglexfoliate Treatment
8. Tarte Pin Up Girl Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette – I know, I know. 3 blush palettes included on a wish list of 8 things? Apparently I’m going through a phase of wanting all the blushes everywhere. Don’t judge. There are 5 blushes in this set – Breathless (pinky beige), Embraced (plummy rose), Whimsy (light pink), Bashful (rosy peach), Irreplaceable (mauve rose).
I know as more and more sets are released for the holidays, I’m going to be adding to this list and trying to narrow down what to actually purchase.
Do you have anything from this list? What’s on your current wish list?

]]>The post OPI Black Satin Swatch appeared first on Scarlet Beauty.
]]>OPI Black Satin is a stunning gunmetal grey with silver microshimmer and a high shine finish. This nail polish made it into my collection as one of the first few OPIs I ever purchased and definitely ignited a love for the brand that is going strong to this day.
The formula is a bit thin, and it’s funny going back to this older OPI polish with a thin brush after being so used to the thicker, easier to use brushes that come with their polishes now. Still, it goes on well and was opaque in 2 coats. I’m not even using a top coat in this photo, and look at how gloss that finish is!
Sadly since this is an older polish that has been discontinued for some time, it may be a bit tricky to find. I still hear of it popping up at discount places and it’s available to purchase on places online if you search.
Before busting this out for OPI October, I hadn’t worn this one in quite a while, but I need to fix that ASAP and start bringing it back into regular rotation. I had forgotten how much I adore this colour!

]]>I’ve been hearing raves about the brand for years, but hadn’t had the chance to test anything out for myself until now.
Inglot is known for their Freedom System, it allows you to pick and choose what size of palette you want, and then you can purchase the individual shades you want to fill it with.
After spending entirely too much time looking at eyeshadow swatches online this week, I had a tentative wish list going in. I figured I’d limit myself to one palette of 10 eyeshadows. Let me tell you this was no easy feat! Especially not when I was surrounded by other makeup addicts gushing about how amazing everything was.
Stay tuned, I’ll be doing a post with a review and swatches of the eyeshadows I picked out!
The Inglot store officially opens tomorrow, September 20, 2014 and is located at 19 Dundas Square, across the street from the Eaton Centre. I’m already looking forward to future visits to pick up more from the brand.
Have you tried anything from Inglot? What are some must haves?

]]>The post Guest Post: Red and White Makeup appeared first on Scarlet Beauty.
]]>Hi everyone! I’m Andy from Ampersaand and I’m really excited to be guest-posting on Scarlet Beauty this month! Thank you so much for having me, Jenn!
This month’s theme is red and white looks, so I have created a super easy summer look using my favourite red and white beauty products. This look is all about keeping things fun, light and fresh – a flawless complexion, a subtle flush of colour on the cheeks, a pop of red on the lips, and most importantly, big, bright eyes. Oh, and a super chic mani to finish things off, of course! Here’s what I used to get the look:
Complexion: For a flawless complexion, I like to set my foundation using the Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder in Translucent Crystal. It goes on completely clear and doesn’t leave me looking cakey, but it reflects light in a way that blurs all the imperfections that my foundation doesn’t quite manage to cover.
Cheeks: When I do big eyes and bold lips, I like to keep my cheeks looking natural. The Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée in Poppy Paradise is the product I turn to in these situations, and it’s also one of my summer essentials. The texture is absolutely amazing…it almost feels like water! It looks a little too red to be wearable in the pot, but it goes on incredibly sheer. If you’re looking for a natural pop of colour that’s going to leave your cheeks beautifully dewy, this is the blush for you!
Lips: It would be impossible for me to write about my favourite red and white beauty products without mentioning the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Candy Apple. A red lip is an easy way to inject some fun into a boring day, and Candy Apple is my go-to lip product for a fuss-free red pout. You can take it from sheer-and-subtle to opaque-and-fierce in a couple of swipes and no matter how you wear it, the colour is always flattering.
Eyes: Big eyes are the key to any great makeup look for me, but I have only just started experimenting with different eyeliners. White eyeliner is a new addition to my makeup routine, but I absolutely love it. For this look, I simply used my white Annabelle Kohl Eyeliner in the inner corner, the waterline and smudged a little on the outer upper lash line with my finger to brighten up the eye. I then used several coats of the Rimmel Scandaleyes Rockin’ Curves in Extreme Black. I made sure to apply a lot of mascara to my bottom lashes, both to open up the eye as much as possible and because the black frames the white eyeliner nicely.
Nails: A good manicure really pulls a look together, and I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to chat some more about my love for white nail polish! A white mani is a chic alternative to neon or pastel summer shades, and I honestly cannot imagine I will ever get sick of how pretty and clean it looks. I also love how it brightens up any outfit instantly, and it has the added benefit of making my chubby fingers appear longer…Perfection!
I really love this red and white themed look and it’s super easy to achieve! How do you keep your makeup fresh and bright during the warmer months?
